Change a clip
The Clip panel: speed, volume, transitions, fit, its prompt, and the toolbar’s Duplicate and Tools.
Click a clip on the timeline and its panel opens on the left, in place of the tool you had open. It shows what the clip is and where it sits on the timeline, its name, and tabs under them. Close it with the × at its top right, or press Esc.

If you pick a tool on the left, the tool shows and the clip stays picked. Choose Clip at the top of the tool list to bring the panel back. Looks and Captions stay open when you pick a clip, since they work on it. If you pick several clips, the panel shows the first one you picked, and says “1 of 3 picked”.
The tabs
- Clip has the settings for the clip (a title has Text instead; see Text and titles).
- Prompt, for a shot you generated, shows the words that made it (an element you tagged with @ shows as a chip), with Copy prompt and Reuse prompt at the foot. Reuse fills the Agent’s card with the prompt and the settings it was made with.
- Details has the clip’s length, the file it comes from, its size, and for a generated shot the model and credits it used.
- Notes shows your team’s notes on the file, in a real workspace.
Move and size it on the preview
You can also pick a clip by clicking it in the preview. A violet outline with a handle at each corner appears around it.
- Drag the clip to move it. Its centre snaps to the middle of the frame, and a violet line shows when it has.
- Drag a corner to make it bigger or smaller. It grows or shrinks around its centre. For a title, this changes the text size.
Each drag is one step for Undo. Click an empty part of the preview to let go. If you can only comment on the edit, you can pick clips this way but not move or size them.
Settings
On the Clip tab, each setting has its name at the left and its control at the right. What you see depends on the clip:
- Speed (video and sound): 0.5×, 1×, 1.5× or 2×. The clip’s length on the timeline follows its speed, so it plays the same part of its file. On the main track the clips after it move to meet it or make room; on another track a faster clip leaves a gap, and a slower one stops at the next clip.
- Volume (video and sound): from silent up to twice as loud.
- Lower under voices (sound): turn it on for music or other background sound, and it eases down while any other sound on an audio track plays, such as a voiceover, then comes back up. It shows in the preview and in the exported video and sound.
- Fade in and Fade out (sound, including a video’s own): sliders from none to three seconds, never past half the clip. The sound rises from silence at its start and falls to silence at its end. They show in the preview and in the exported video and sound.
- Sound (video that still plays its own sound): Detach sound turns the clip’s sound into a clip of its own on an audio track, with the same file, timing and speed, and mutes the picture. It’s free and one undo step; the new sound clip is the one picked.
- Take (a shot generated in this workspace that has more than one take of its prompt): a row of pictures, one for each take made from the same prompt, including re-rolls and upscales. The one in the edit is ringed. Choose another to swap it in; it keeps the clip’s place, look and framing, and its length unless the new file is shorter. One undo step puts the old one back.
- In (video and images, when another clip ends right where this one starts): how it comes in. Pick from the list: Cut, Fade, Black, Flash, Whip, Zoom, Wipe, Push, Blur, Iris or Glitch.
- Frame (video and images of a different shape from the timeline): Fill crops it to fill the frame; Fit shows all of it.
The timeline’s toolbar
What you can do with the picked clip is in the toolbar at the top of the timeline:
- The blade (B) cuts a clip where you click it. S splits the picked clips at the playhead.
- Duplicate makes a copy right after the clip; later clips on the track move along to make room. It works on one clip at a time.
- Tools opens a menu, each tool with its price.
- Delete removes the picked clips. On the main track the gap closes up; hold Shift to close it on any track.
Everything that makes a new file from the clip is in Tools:
- Under This clip, first for a video that still plays its own sound: Detach sound, as above.
- Under This clip: Make it again, and Make it on another model, for shots generated in this workspace. They use the same prompt and frame. A tile in Media for this edit shows it being made, and the new generation takes its place when it’s ready, so you can compare and swap it in.
- Under This clip too: Change it with a prompt, for video from your Library. Say what should change, and a new copy of the whole video lands in Media. See Change a video with a prompt. And Remove background, for video and images, which lands in Media ready to put over another shot.
- Under Recast, for video and images, when you have characters in Elements: Recast as one of them. The person closest to the camera is swapped for them, and a new copy lands in Media. See Recast someone in a video or photo.
- Under This clip too, for a video of another shape from the edit: Crop to the edit’s shape following the subject, which is free and cuts the clip where the subject moves, and Fill in to the edit’s shape, which paints in the space around the shot instead of cropping. See Reframe a video.
- Under This clip too: Clean up the sound, for a video or sound clip. It keeps the voice and takes out the noise, and puts the clean voice under the clip, in step with it, with the clip’s own sound turned down. See Clean up audio.
- Under This clip too, for a video clip: Freeze frame, which is free. It holds the frame under the playhead (the clip’s first frame, if the playhead is elsewhere) for two seconds, with the clip’s look and framing, and the rest of the clip and everything after it move along, on every track that isn’t locked, so the sound and captions stay in step. And Save this frame, also free, which puts that frame in your Library and in Media for this edit as a photo. Both need a real, signed-in workspace.
- Under This clip too, for a video clip on a desktop: Extend…, which adds 4 to 15 seconds before the clip, after it or both. The new parts land on the timeline beside the clip, and the rest of the cut moves along to make room. See Dub, upscale, extend or add sound to a video.
- Under Fix it, for generated video clips: Upscale 4K, Slow down and Lip sync, and on a phone Extend 5s. Lip sync matches the mouth to a voiceover on an audio track under the clip, so put one there first (Audio → Voice).
A message says when one has started. Splitting, duplicating and deleting are free, like all editing.
On a phone, a picked clip’s tools come up along the bottom (Split, Speed, Volume, Looks, Adjust, Frame, Tools, Duplicate and Delete), each opening a drawer. See Edit on your phone.
