Docs

Write briefs, scripts and plans together, and have the Agent read them, work from them and write them for you.

Docs are your workspace's documents: a project brief, a treatment, a script or screenplay, a plan, notes. Everyone in the workspace can open them, and editors can write in them at the same time, each person's cursor showing with their name and their picture at the top. The Agent reads them and can write them for you.

Start a doc

Open Docs in the sidebar (on a phone, tap your photo at the top left, then Docs) and choose New doc (on a phone, the violet + at the top right). New doc under the question on Home does the same.

A doc opens like the editor, with the sidebar tucked away (choose Show sidebar at the top left to bring it over the page). Give it a title at the top of the page, then write. It saves as you go: the top of the page says Saving… and then Saved. To rename it later, change the title on the page, or choose Rename from More on its tile in Docs.

A note on a board can become a doc too. Pick the note and choose Make it a doc above it. The note's first line becomes the title when there's more under it, and the note stays on the board.

Write

The toolbar under the top of the page sets what each line is: Text, Title, Heading, Subheading, Scene heading or Dialogue. Beside it are Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Checklist, Quote, Divider, Undo, Redo and Comment. At the right it shows how many words the doc has.

For a screenplay, use Scene heading for each scene (INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT), plain text for the action, and Dialogue for each line: type who says it above the line. Press Enter at the end of a line of dialogue for another, or in an empty one to go back to text.

Commenters can read a doc and comment on it, but not change it.

Comment

Pick some words and choose Comment in the toolbar (or press ⌘⌥M on a Mac, Ctrl Alt M on Windows), write what you'd change, and press Enter. The words light up, and the comment sits beside them in a column at the right of the page, level with its words. Choose a comment, or the lit words, to open the conversation: reply, resolve it with the tick, or delete it. Resolved comments are put away and their words aren't lit any more. When the window is too narrow for the column, each comment is a small round pin with its writer's initial beside its words; on a phone, tapping one opens it in a sheet.

Whoever made the doc, and everyone in a conversation, hears about new comments and replies in Notifications. A comment from a commenter keeps the words it's about as a quote, without lighting them.

Use a doc with the Agent

In a doc the Agent sits at the right, as it does in the editor: choose the sparkle at the top right (or press ⌘J) to open or close it. It reads the open doc with every message, so you can ask about it ("Is this brief clear enough to shoot from?") or ask for changes ("Add a scene where they meet"). Changes land in the doc as you watch, and anything you're typing at the same time is kept.

Anywhere else, type # in the Agent's card to name a doc, or choose Docs in the row under your words (on a phone, the page icon) and tap the docs you want: each sits in your words as a chip, and tapping it again in the list takes it out. Name as many as you like. The Agent reads each one as it is when you send, and keeps reading the docs a conversation has named, so a brief named once stays your brief while you make shots, plans or edits. Use in Agent from More on a doc's tile in Docs puts its chip in the card for you.

Ask the Agent for something to keep, such as "Write a brief for the spring launch" or "Turn this into a screenplay", and it writes it as a new doc and opens it.

Folders

Boards and docs share the workspace's folders with the Library and Studio, so one folder can hold a project's footage, edits, boards and docs. Folders sit above the docs as tiles with how many docs each holds; choose one to open its docs on a page of its own, with Docs before its name to come back. New folder is at the top right (on a phone, in the ⋯ menu).

To file a doc, choose Move to and the folder from More on its tile, or drag the tile onto a folder on a desktop. Undo in the message puts it back. Take out of folder takes it out again. New doc inside a folder writes the doc there. Under a folder's name, Also here links to the rest of what's in it. A folder's ⋯ has Rename and Delete folder, which change it in every tab; deleting one keeps everything that was in it.

Delete a doc

Choose Delete doc from More beside the doc's name, or from More on its tile. It goes for everyone in the workspace. Anything made from it stays.
