Keyboard shortcuts in the editor
The keys for playing, stepping, splitting, deleting and undoing in the editor.
Press ? in the editor to see these at any time. On Windows, use Ctrl where a Mac uses ⌘.
Playback
- Space: play or pause.
- ← and →: back or forward a frame.
- Shift ← and Shift →: back or forward a second.
Editing
- S: split at the playhead. With clips picked, only those are split.
- Delete (or Backspace): delete the picked clips.
- Shift Delete: delete and close the gap.
- ⌘Z: undo.
- ⌘ Shift Z: redo. Ctrl Y works too.
- Shift-click: pick more than one clip.
- Esc: let go of the picked clips.
On the timeline
- Hold Option (Alt on Windows) while you drag a clip’s end to ripple trim: everything after it on the track moves with the change.
The keys don’t work while you’re typing in a box, such as a prompt or a title, so you can type an S or a space there as usual. Anyone who can only comment can play and step through the edit, but the editing keys do nothing.
