Start a new edit

A project holds your footage and one or more edits of it. Each edit is its own timeline in its own shape, so a 16:9 cut and a 9:16 reel of the same shoot sit side by side.

A new project

Choose New edit on Edits. On Home you can also switch the card to Edit and describe the video you want; that opens the same page with your description filled in.

1. Upload your clips with Add more or From this computer. Files already in your Library can go in once the edit is open, from Media → Add from the Library.
2. Describe the video under What should Shotz make? The first words become the project’s name.
3. Pick a template under Start from a template if you want one (only if your workspace has templates).
4. Choose the Shape: 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5.
5. Choose Make it. It waits until your uploads finish.

Your clips go onto the timeline one after another, in the order you added them, in an edit called Main cut. With a template, your clips fill its shots in order instead, and any extra go on the end. To begin with nothing on the timeline, choose Or start with an empty timeline.

Another edit of the same project

Each new edit starts with an empty timeline and the project’s files in Media.

• On the project’s page, choose New edit and pick a shape: Landscape, Reel, Feed square or Feed portrait.
• In the editor, choose the edit’s name in the top bar. The Edits panel lists every edit in the project; choose one to switch to it, or a shape under New edit to start another.

Changing the shape later

The pill above the preview shows the edit’s shape. Choose it and pick another; you can undo the change like any other.

You need to be able to edit in the workspace to start an edit. People who can only comment see the edits but can’t make them.
