The Assistant

Ask about your edit, get suggestions with timecodes, and read what’s said in the Transcript.

The Assistant sits on the right of the editor. It knows this edit: its clips and their timings, what’s in the footage, what’s said and where the playhead is.

What to ask

Type in Ask, or tell it what to do and press Enter, or choose one of the suggestions above the box. For example:

  • Where should I cut to make this 20 seconds?
  • Write a hook for the first second.
  • What should the captions say over the rooftop shot?
  • What music would suit this?
  • Which shot is missing, and how would I prompt it?

It answers with concrete steps and timecodes, in the editor’s own words, so you can find the place and make the change. The Assistant doesn’t change the timeline itself, so nothing it says needs undoing.

The conversation is saved with the edit, so it’s there the next time you open it. Each edit has its own conversation.

The Transcript

Choose Transcript at the top of the panel to read what’s said on the timeline, line by line, with who’s speaking and when. Choose a line to jump the playhead there. Speech appears a minute or two after a file is uploaded.

Showing and hiding it

Hide the panel with the arrows at its top right; bring it back with Assistant on the right edge. When you pick a clip, the Clip panel takes its place until you close it.

Limits

  • The Assistant is for people who can edit the project. If you can only comment, ask an owner to make you an editor.
  • You can send 30 messages in 10 minutes. After that, give it a little while.
  • It uses no credits.
