How posts are checked

What the check looks for, what “not in the feed” and “taken down” mean, and appeals.

Every post is checked by an AI before anyone else sees it. It looks at the picture (several frames of a video), the caption and the prompt. It usually takes under a minute, and you get a notification with the answer.

What it looks for

  • Sexual content, and anyone who may be under 18 in a sexual way
  • Graphic violence or gore
  • Real public figures: celebrities, politicians, athletes
  • Hate or harassment
  • Self-harm
  • Anything dangerous or illegal
  • Spam or adverts

Action-film spectacle, swimwear and ordinary affection are fine.

Where a post can land

  • In the feed: in the feeds, on your profile and at its own link.
  • Not in the feed: on your profile and at its own link, but not in For you, Following or New. This is for posts that are borderline rather than wrong, such as one that looks like a real public figure, or one the check couldn’t be sure about.
  • Taken down: not shown anywhere. The take is still in your Library.

On Create, the take under a post says where it stands: Shared · checking, Shared, Shared · not in the feed or Taken down. Open your post to read why; the reason is shown only to you.

Ask for another look

If your post is not in the feed or taken down, open it and choose Ask for another look. Say what the AI should know, and it looks again, more closely, with what you said. You get one appeal per post, and its answer is final.

Reports

Anyone signed in can report a post. Reports send the post back for another look with what people said, and a post that several people report can be kept out of the feed. If yours is taken down after a report, you’re told, and you can ask for another look.

Pauses

If several of your posts are taken down in a short time, posting is paused on your account for a week; you can still like and remix. Sexual content that may involve a minor is taken down at once, pauses posting, and goes to our team.

Comments are checked in the same way. See Comments on community posts.
