Sign in or create an account

Sign in with an email code, Google, Apple, Facebook, X, Discord, Twitch or a password, and what the first questions are for.

Signing in and signing up are the same page: go to shotz.co/signin. If there’s no account for your email yet, Shotz makes one and sets up a workspace for you.

Ways in

  • Email me a code. Enter your email and Shotz sends a 6-digit code. Type it in and you’re signed in as soon as the last digit goes in, or open the link in the same email instead. The code and the link each work once, for an hour. If nothing arrives, Send a new code appears after a minute.
  • Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, Continue with Facebook, Continue with X, Continue with Discord or Continue with Twitch. Signs you in with that account. If your email there matches a Shotz account, it signs you into that one. Apple, Facebook, X, Discord and Twitch show once they’re available.
  • Facebook is Facebook Login. There’s no Instagram button: Instagram only lets business and creator accounts sign in to other apps, so use Facebook, or the email on your Instagram account, instead.
  • With Apple you can choose Hide My Email. Shotz then gets an address ending in privaterelay.appleid.com, which passes our emails on to you, and that address is your Shotz account’s email. Apple doesn’t give Shotz your picture, and gives your name only the first time, so the first questions ask for it.
  • Use a password instead. Works once you’ve set a password, either when you first sign up or later in your account. If you’ve forgotten it, choose Forgot password? and Shotz emails you a link to set a new one. That link also works for an hour.

You can always go back to an email code, even after you set a password.

If you open a sign-in link while you’re already signed in, you stay signed in as you. To use a link for another account, sign out first. Some older links ask Sign in as that email address before they do anything; choose Sign in only if it’s your account.

In the iPhone and Android app, you start on a welcome screen with Get started and I have an account, and Apple (iPhone) or Google (Android) sign in with your phone’s own sheet. See Use Shotz on your phone.

The first time you sign in

Shotz asks a few short questions, one a screen:

  1. What should we call you? Your name goes on everything you make. Underneath is your Handle, the address of your page in the community (shotz.co/@yourhandle). It follows your name until you type your own.
  2. Name your workspace. Where your edits, files and credits live. You can rename it any time. If someone invited you into their workspace, this step is skipped.
  3. Add a password? Optional. Choose Skip and Shotz keeps emailing you a code. Under the password box is a tick box, Email me new guides and product news, which is empty unless you tick it. You can change it later in your email settings.
  4. Pick a plan. Shown if your workspace is on Free and you didn’t already choose a plan on the pricing page. Plans open on Annual, priced by the month, with the year’s total under each price; switch to Monthly to pay month by month. Continue to checkout opens the payment page. If you only want to edit for now, choose Just edit for now: the editor is free.

Everything except the plan is saved when you finish the password step, so leaving at the plan step still leaves you set up.

If something goes wrong

  • “That code didn’t work”: it may be mistyped, used already or more than an hour old. Send yourself a new one and use the newest.
  • “Google didn’t sign you in” (or Apple, Facebook, X, Discord or Twitch), or “sign-in was cancelled”: try again, or use an email code instead.
  • “There’s no Shotz account for that Google account, and new accounts can’t be made right now” (or Apple, Facebook, X, Discord or Twitch): that account isn’t linked to a Shotz account, and Shotz can’t make new ones at the moment. If you already have an account, sign in with its email.
  • “Too many emails sent”: wait a minute, then try again.
  • “We couldn’t check that you’re a person”: reload the page and try again. A short check may show on the page before the email goes.
  • “That email and password don’t match”: if you’ve never set a password, sign in with an email code instead.
