CDN links

Load a Library file straight into your own site or app from shotz.dev, on Pro and Team.

A CDN link is an address on shotz.dev that loads one Library file, so your website or app can show it without sending people to Shotz. CDN links come with the Pro and Team plans.

Turn them on for the workspace

An owner opens Settings → General and turns on CDN links. Until then, no file in the workspace has a CDN link, and the CDN link section in a file's Share tab says what's needed.

Turn one on for a file

Open the file in the Library, choose its Share tab and turn on CDN link. Editors can do this for each file. The address appears under the switch, and anyone in the workspace can see it once it's on.

Choose Copy to copy it. Under Which file, pick what the address loads:

  • Original: the file as it is.
  • 720p: a smaller copy of a video that plays anywhere. Only videos have one.
  • Still: a WebP of the first frame of a video, or a smaller WebP of a photo.

Anyone with the address can load the file, so only turn a link on for a file you're happy to make public. A file that isn't a picture, video or sound downloads instead of opening in the browser.

If a file gets a new version, its address keeps working and serves the current version.

Turn one off

Turn off CDN link and confirm with Turn off. The address stops working within a few minutes. Turning it on again makes a new address, and the old one never works again.

Turn them off for the workspace

An owner can turn CDN links off in Settings → General. Every address in the workspace stops working. Turning the switch back on brings the same addresses back. If the workspace moves to a plan without CDN links, its addresses stop too.

Good to know

  • A CDN link is separate from a shared link. Changing who can open a file in Shotz doesn't change its CDN link, and turning the CDN link off doesn't change who can open the file.
  • Deleting a file stops its CDN link.
  • Each change is written to the audit log: who turned a file's link on or off, and who turned the workspace switch on or off.
