Music for your cut: score a video or make a song

Music decides how a cut feels more than any one shot in it. Picked last, in a hurry, from whatever’s nearby, it’s how a good edit ends up feeling like everyone else’s.

The Music tool in Shotz makes it to order, three ways, on three models.

Score a video with Sonilo

Sonilo is the one that hears. Pick a video from your Library of up to a minute and choose As long as a video: it listens to the video and fits the music to it. If yours runs longer, trim it in an edit first. Sonilo makes instrumentals, and they’re safe for commercial use.

Or describe a track and pick 15, 30 or 60 seconds. A 15-second track from a description is free, three times a day.

Describe what you’d hear

A genre on its own gets you the average of the genre. Say the mood, the instruments and the tempo, and where it goes: does it build, drop out, end on a hit? If someone will talk over it, say no vocals. Write it like a note to a composer, a sentence or two; the box takes up to 1,000 characters, far more than you need.

A scene worth writing a track for. Made on FLUX 3 for this post.

A song with vocals

ElevenLabs Music makes vocals or an instrumental at the length you pick, 15, 30 or 60 seconds. It’s charged for each started minute, so all three cost the same. Lyria 3.5 makes a whole song with vocals and lyrics, about three minutes, at one price. For both, give it the genre, the mood, the instruments and the voice, and write lyrics in quotes or let it write them.

Under a 15-second ad with someone talking, a song is usually too much: a voice fighting a voice. Keep vocals for the cuts where nobody speaks, and let the singing carry the words.

Pick the music for the cut you made, not the one you meant to.

Put it under the cut

Every track lands in your Library, ready to add to an edit. Inside the editor, the Audio tool’s Music card hands the job to the Agent, which makes music for that edit’s length. For a single clip, Sound effects listens to the picture and makes up to 30 seconds of sound for it, and five a day are free.

Take your last cut, score it with Sonilo, and play it against the track you would have picked.
